Concord Writing Workshop
Master Skills & Craft
Sunday, June 9 - Saturday, June 15
1 Spot Left
Gary Schmidt and Patti Gauch team up for a novel workshop in an American town known for its history and literary culture. The hometown of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Margaret Fuller has nourished and inspired writers for two hundred years, and it is within that spirit that we invite writers to come together for a week of workshops, craft talks, one-on-one editing and mentoring sessions, and readings.
We hope that you will be inspired by Concord itself: its charming 1800s buildings that remain in the town center as they were in the authors' times; the authors' houses so lovingly preserved; Walden Pond, which is still lovely and calm and peaceful, though perhaps more treed than when Thoreau built his cabin here.
But the heart of our days will be good writerly work. In large group sessions, we'll talk about the major elements of fiction and how those might be used in your stories. In small group sessions, we'll focus on your writing, workshopping it and testing it for voice, for meaning, for alternate perspectives and for point of view. You'll learn to hone your writing skills as we workshop and come away, we hope, with a stronger sense of writerly gifts, with a new community of writers, and with pieces that might be sent out into the world to reach young audiences.
We invite you to join us on this journey.
