The term “worldbuilding” is most commonly used in the creation of fantasy, sci-fi, and speculative stories. But ALL of us, whether we write realistic fiction, historical fiction, or even—yes—nonfiction, are builders of worlds.

Join award-winning author and VCFA faculty member Evan Griffith, for this highly generative and interactive session. Whether you have a project in progress or you’re brainstorming something new, whether you’re working on a middle grade or a young adult, whether you’re building a magical world or a contemporary one, this workshop will enable you to adapt and apply fantasy worldbuilding tools to multiple settings across form and genre.

You will come away having deepened your setting in both specificity and emotional resonance, creating a more immersive world for young readers. Come prepared to think, write, and play.

Workshop will be recorded.
