The scene is the basic building block of any story, but what makes a great scene?

You will delve into the key elements that go into writing great scenes—stage setup, characters and their motives, large and small actions, dialogue, and point of view—all working together toward an exciting scene climax.

This workshop incorporates studying mentor texts and writing time. You’ll look at examples drawn from popular works of middle grade and YA fiction and you’ll leave the workshop with a new scene.

This Workshop is For You If:

  • You are an author who wants to explore and study craft.

  • You are an author currently writing a novel.

  • You are an author wanting to look at how to elevate your scenes.

You’ll Complete This Workshop With:

  • A better understanding of how to structure a scene.

  • A revised or newly written scene.
